Stenabolic, scientifically designated as SR9009, is a synthetic compound that acts as an agonist of the nuclear receptors Rev-Erbα and Rev-Erbβ, and is therefore mechanistically unrelated to classical SARMs, despite frequently being discussed in that context.

Rev-Erb receptors are nuclear transcription factors that play a central role in regulating circadian rhythm, lipid and glucose metabolism, and mitochondrial biogenesis. SR9009 activates these receptors, thereby influencing the expression of numerous metabolically relevant genes, including those involved in fatty acid oxidation, gluconeogenesis, and mitochondrial proliferation. Animal studies conducted with SR9009 observed altered sleep-wake cycles, increased metabolic activity, and changes in running endurance in mice. These findings established SR9009 as an interesting subject of research into metabolic regulation and circadian biology. No human data exist; the compound has no approved clinical status.
Bioavailability and Methodological Challenges
One aspect of SR9009 that has been widely discussed in the research community is its oral bioavailability. Several preclinical studies suggest that SR9009 achieves only limited systemic availability following oral administration, raising questions about the optimal route of delivery.
